You Must Build Walls to Keep the Enemy Out by John Di Lemme

In the Bible, a royal cupbearer by the name of Nehemiah was determined to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.  He secretly inspected the damaged walls at night and formed a plan for its restoration.  Soon afterward, he announced his plans to the priests, nobles and officials.  His plan was well received by the people and enthusiasm spread as work began.

Fearing that the city might be attacked, he and the others worked quickly.  Nehemiah learned that an assault had been planned against Jerusalem so he redoubled the effort to complete the wall and stationed men at the weakest spots.  Despite many obstacles, the wall was completed in fifty-two days, and the city was protected from its enemies.

Just like Nehemiah, you must build a wall to protect yourself from the enemy.  Your enemy isn’t a physical warrior from another land.  It is procrastination, fear, naysayers, negative associations and other adversities that try to stop you from achieving your Why in life.  Your mastermind team will be the workers that help you design the wall and stand at the weak spots where the enemy typically tries to attack.  They will believe in you and encourage you along the way.  The bricks in your wall are made of faith, motivation, courage, belief and perseverance.  You will work vigorously until your wall is completed, and no enemy can infiltrate your Why.

This all sounds great, but if you don’t strengthen your wall every day by immersing yourself in personal development, then cracks form in your walls.  Weeds will begin to grow through the cracks and insects will enter as the cracks spread through the foundation.  The negativity of the outside world will slowly seep in, and you will start doubting yourself and your ability to achieve your Why in life.  It isn’t long before your wall becomes weakened by decay and succumbs to the enemy.

This is often the result when people hang out with negative friends, read gossip magazines instead of inspirational material and watch garbage television shows instead of feeding their minds with motivational messages.  If you find yourself falling back into old habits and your wall begins to crumble, then it’s time for you to separate yourself from the madness and start secretly rebuilding your wall that protects your dream from the enemy.

The wall that protects my belief in who I am and my ability to achieve my Why in life is solid as the rock that Nehemiah used to build the wall of Jerusalem.  The bricks of my wall are made of integrity and faith.  I strengthen my wall every day by reading the Bible and immersing myself in motivational material.  I refuse to allow the enemy to discourage me or weaken my wall of faith.

It’s time for your fourth challenge.  Take your time with this one and don’t move forward with the reading until this challenge is completed.  I want you to go to a quiet place and evaluate your current life situation.  Now, devise a plan to build your wall.  What are your bricks made of?  Who is on the mastermind team that will help you build your wall and stand at your weak spots when the enemy attacks?  Make a list of the adversities (the enemies) that your wall will keep out.

The final step is the most important.  What daily action steps will you take to strengthen your wall?  This great wall will explode your belief in who you are and your limitless abilities to achieve your Why in life.

Separated to be Elevated by John Di Lemme

If you are a Champion (and you are), then you will be promoted to greater and higher realms of leadership.  Life has a way of elevating true Champions.  Just as cream rises to the top of milk, true Champions rise to the top of companies, projects, and great events.  When that happens, old relationships fall away.  It can be emotional and difficult, but it’s part of the price of leadership.  Champions must be separated from the crowd before they can be elevated into prominence.

I only hang out with Champions.  My mastermind team consists wonderful, fired up, success maniacs that are striving to succeed in every area of their life.  They support and encourage my “Why” in life, and I support them the same way.  But, you know what?  Not one of them is someone I knew from my past.  Except for my parents and some family, not one of my friends from my old days is around me today.  Think about that; I was separated away from the lower levels.  That’s not prideful talk.  I’m humbled and grateful for the blessings of God which have elevated me.  But, I’m telling you that one of the prices that Champions have to pay is being separated from the old gang.

I won’t even try to convince you that this is an easy process.  Sometimes it happens naturally after you begin to immerse yourself in positive self-development materials and activities.  One day you look around, and you are surrounded by positive, like-minded people.  Believe me, negative naysayers don’t want to hang around with someone that is always speaking empowering words or has a positive outlook on life despite the obstacles.

On the other hand, sometimes those friends that are always dragging you down just decide to hang around and try harder to squash your Why in life.  What do you do?  You have to exercise the gift of goodbye.  Explain to those people that you are on a path to success and you cannot allow them to steal your dreams.  It’s like a bad apple in a barrel of delicious red apples.  That bad apple becomes cankerous and destroys all of the bright, vibrant apples.  This is what happens when you allow those so-called friends to continually badger you with their negative nonsense.

I readily admit that I am always ready to embrace goodbye.  I only spend time with Champions.  Of course, I’ll help someone that is struggling to find success.  I am a mentor, and I’m pretty good at spotting the Champions fighting to get out of people.  You’ve seen them too; they’re not addicted to negative attitudes and words.  They are always searching the horizon in order to spot their future.  When they see it, they go for it.  I will always have time to help those people.  I love them…Champions struggling to be born.

It is not hateful to tell someone goodbye.  Rather, it’s faithful.  It’s faithful to your own dream and to live the life of a Champion.  It’s not a personal thing.  You shouldn’t be cruel or dismissive of others, but you have to respond to the call of success.  That call will always separate you before it elevates you.

I have seen people elevated while trying to hang on to someone from the old days.  If they continue, the old buddy will often trip them up.  Not because he’s a bad guy, but because he’s addicted to negativity.  It’s like eagles trying to hang out with pigeons.  There’s nothing wrong with pigeons, but they will NEVER be eagles.  You are an eagle!  Fly higher than the pigeons and don’t look down.

If you’re making $50,000 a year, start hanging out with people who make $200,000 a year.  Learn their secrets.  Ask them to teach you.  That’s what “separated to be elevated” means.  You make a choice about the kind of influences, the kind of people, the kind of books, the kind of movies and the kind of material that you will allow into your mind.

This is serious stuff.  Listen to me.  If you were determined to become physically fit and healthy, you wouldn’t continue to hang out with Twinkies, donuts, beer, and Doritos.  You would find the gift of goodbye; you would move out of the old nutritional neighborhood.  You would allow yourself to be separated from McDonalds and Pizza Hut in order to be elevated to healthy power foods.  What if you tried to be healthy, but said, “I can’t leave my old friends – the fries, the cakes, the milk shakes – I can’t forsake them?”  How long would your dream of health and physical fitness last?  It’s the same thing with success and living as a Champion.

You have a decision to make.  Are you going to be a Champion?  Are you willing to pay the price?  The struggle is vitally important.  It does something in you and for you.  I’ve never known a Champion who didn’t have to struggle with shaking off the old in order to embrace the new.  The number of obstacles that you face in life will lay the foundation for massive growth.

Let me tell you, sometimes between the separated and the elevated, there is a very lonely period.  You’ve been separated from your old friends and not yet integrated with lots of Champions.   That is a real testing time.  I was in my twenties when I made the decision to leave my old friends behind.  At that time, I was surrounded by many so-called friends that called me everyday to hang out.  It wasn’t until I began my success journey that I finally realized that I was wasting precious time by hanging out with that crowd.  I wanted so much more out of life and believed I could achieve it.  Unfortunately, my friends weren’t ready to step out in faith and build a new life for themselves.  After a while, I noticed that the phone stopped ringing and I rarely saw any of those people.  It was very lonely but I eventually met new friends that believed in me as much as I believed in myself and my Why in life.

If you want to achieve greatness in your life, then you have to make the decision to develop a mastermind team of positive, influential people that are success-driven and believe in you.   Have you ever tried to steer a parked car?  Not much excitement there.  It’s far better to steer a car that’s moving.  The power steering is flowing, the tires are moving on the highway, and you can gently and effortlessly glide that vehicle right up onto the road.  When you try to steer from a parked, no power, cold-engine spot on the driveway, nothing happens.  Success is like that.  You will never be able to turn the key in your heart and travel down the road of success without first pulling out of the old, comfortable parking spot of negative associations.

You’re a Champion!  Your car is already moving.  The fact that you’re reading this article and not a comic book or other time-waster means that your car is moving pretty well.  Just keep rolling . . . right on past the slower cars, the older cars and the beat-up pick-ups that have not been maintained.  You were destined for higher elevations.  It’s time to go for it!

The Power that Lies within Accountability by John Di Lemme

Power is the ability to create explosive results from the potential that lies within people and things. Think about the power within a stick of dynamite or maybe an automobile. When you press the pedal, the power that lies within the vehicle is ignited. Similarly, the power within a rocket ship is ignited by the fuel tanks. Now, let me share with you the power that lies within the word accountability.

Everybody.  Who?  Everybody. Once again, let me clarify just in case you didn’t get it.  Everybody means YOU! Everybody needs to be accountable to someone. The word "accountability" means the ability to be accounted for. For example, anytime somebody goes on an airplane, the flight attendant does a final seat count and makes sure that all the passengers are accounted for. This basically means they are in their seats, have their seat belts on and are ready to reach their destinations. The flight attendants keep you safe and provide direction while you are on the flight.

Unfortunately, 97% of people aren’t accountable to anyone in life. Being accountable to a boss is a joke.  You show up at your job, you do your job, you go home, and you get paid.  You aren’t accountable to a boss when that’s the extent of your interaction.  Instead, I am talking about an accountability partner. This is someone that will truly stretch you and encourage you.  An accountability partner won’t allow you to remain complacent.  They will push you out of your comfort zone so that you can rise to the next level in life and achieve your Why. That is the power of accountability!

You have to ask yourself three important questions: “Who am I accountable to? When am I accountable to them? How am I accountable to them?” All of my top elite coaching students are accountable to me. The last thing any of my students want to do is email or call me for their accountability updates and say, “John, I have done nothing in order to fulfill my Why."  I simply refuse to allow them to fail in life and hold them accountable for their fear and procrastination that is stealing their dreams.  It’s easy for someone not to answer for their laziness or other bad habits if they don’t have an accountability partner.  Don’t allow yourself to get stuck in that trap!

So, here’s what I want to ask you today: Are you willing to stretch yourself? Are you willing to engage an accountability partner? I highly suggest that you have a coach (i.e., mentor), but not a life coach and not a baby coach. Not someone who will say, “Great job, great job!” when you are truly doing nothing.  You need someone that is going to stretch you, and make you uncomfortable in order for you to achieve your Why.

Remember, the questions you have to ask yourself are: “Who am I accountable to?” “When am I accountable to them?” “How am I accountable to them?” If you are not accountable, then you are setting yourself up for failure and will likely fall into this statistic - 97% of people are dead or dead broke by the age of 65.  Why? Because they are not being accountable for anything or to anyone. I believe in you, and I believe you are worth a lot more than that.  Take action today by finding an accountability partner that will catapult you to the next level in life!

The Channel That You Are Tuned in to Will Determine Your Future by John Di Lemme

There are two channels on TV that I find amazing - the Discovery Channel and the History Channel.  Both of these channels provide amazing information that took years to compile.  Their researchers have literally traveled back in time to discover unbelievable facts about the world and often dedicate their lives to validating these facts through more intensive discovery methods.

When you are trying to figure out who you are in life, you should exert as much time and energy in your research as the professionals behind the programs on the Discovery Channel and History Channel.  You will tune into your very own Champion Channel to find out exactly what makes you different from everyone else and why you will be able to achieve your Why in life.

This will be no easy task.  First, you will need to excavate the champion that lies within your heart.  It is buried under layers of procrastination and fear that have built up over the years as you’ve become complacent in your current lifestyle.  Think back…Do you remember when you were excited about your goals and dreams?  You had plans of being prosperous and living life to the fullest.  That champion mindset still lives inside of you!

After uncovering your inner champion, sit down and write out your Why in life.  Your Why is basically the reason why you get out of bed everyday.  It’s your purpose for living.  It truly defines who you are.  You are basically rediscovering yourself.  Here’s an example of a Why that was written by one of my coaching students:

“I am dealing with all the challenges of building my business today, because my WHY is to spend more time with my family, provide for my children’s education, and have the finances needed to take regular family vacations and be a mentor to my kids.  I am donating/tithing a percentage of my earnings to my church or favorite organization.  I am making a difference today as a profit producing, fear demolishing, record breaking, action taking, fired up and laser focused champion.”

Isn’t that powerful?  Your Why should be clear and concise.  It should tell someone who you are and where you are going.  There’s no room for doubt or fear.  It must be a statement that declares what you are, not what you want to be.

Now that you’ve completed the discovery phase by extracting the champion out of your heart and writing out your detailed Why in life, it’s time for you to prove it.  Remember, I said that you would be like the researchers on the History Channel and Discovery Channel.  After an archeologist discovers an ancient tomb, he carefully excavates it and strategically details every aspect of the tomb.  The next step is the hardest.  He has to prove that it is an ancient tomb and provide undeniable facts that validate his find.

If you declare that you are a champion, then it’s time for you to prove it to yourself and others.  Start out by asking yourself, “What am I doing every day to achieve my Why in life?”  If your answer is nothing, then you will remain exactly where you are right now in your life.  You will never move to the next level.  You must take daily action steps towards the fulfillment of your Why.  Remember, I said that some of the researchers dedicate their lives to their work.  You have to become fanatical about your Why and dedicate yourself to achieving it.  Is that extreme?  Yes.

You have to be extremely focused on determining who you are in life and what you are destined to achieve.  Am I extreme? Absolutely. I’m extremely fanatical about success. I’m extremely fanatical about giving, prosperity, teaching, exercising, and making a difference in the world.  When you make the decision to become constantly tuned into your Champion Channel, your entire life will start taking shape.

During my discovery phase, I went back in history and found my birth certificate. I placed it right in front of me in my construction zone (office). It is a constant reminder that I was born a champion, and no one can take that away from me.  Start to reprogram your mind with things that you look at in your construction zone.  Just like an archeologist has maps, blueprints and artifacts plastered all over his office, you must surround yourself with things like your birth certificate that constantly remind you of who you are in life.

For the third challenge, I want you to commit to tuning into your Champion Channel.  You will rediscover yourself and validate who you are every day through your daily action steps.  Your life will change, and people will soon realize that you are extremely committed to your Why in life.

Knowledge When Properly Applied by John Di Lemme

You’ve probably heard this statement many, many times – “Knowledge when properly applied...”  That statement leads to the conclusion that when knowledge is applied to something it changes the status of that particular thing, but what is knowledge and why does it have the power to create change?  Get ready to learn what knowledge truly means!  Let’s begin by breaking down the word.

Know:  You must know your business, which means you must know the power of network marketing, real estate, sales or whatever your business is.  You must also know how to prospect and recruit Champions, handle objections and deal with rejection.  Most importantly, you must know in your heart that you can and will achieve your dreams through your business.

L – Listen:  You must listen to those that have walked in your shoes.  For example, a football coach that coaches a NFL team usually has many records under his belt and has proven himself as a Champion in the game of football.  You wouldn’t see a world renowned hockey player coaching a NFL football.  The same is true for your business. Why would you take direction from someone that has NEVER done what you want to do?  There are many so-called coaches out there attempting to coach people yet they have NEVER done what they are attempting to teach.  You must listen and learn from those that have been where you are now and have gone all the way to the top!

E – Edge:  You must have the edge and live on the edge to truly succeed in your business.  That means you are willing to dedicate yourself to your business and become the best that you can be.  This includes filling your mind with motivational, business building strategies on a daily basis to constantly be one step ahead of others in the industry.  You must also attend events, seminars and boot camps hosted by those that are highly successful in your industry.  This will give you the competitive “edge” that you need to be more successful than others in your field.

If you live by these keys, then knowledge when applied to your business will create action and rock your future!  Make today the day that you truly understand the word knowledge.
