Dress for Success!

You know as well as I do that you feel better when you take a physical shower. Think about it. When you come home from the gym or work, there’s nothing like taking a nice hot shower.  For me, it’s cutting the lawn.  I have a pool in my backyard, and when the landscapers from our home owner’s association come into my backyard, they blow grass into the pool.  I am a maniac about my pool.  I simply couldn’t take it anymore so I posted a sign in Spanish that said “Stop. Do Not Cut the Grass!” 

            Now, I cut my own lawn, and there’s never any grass in the pool.  My friend, Bob, assists me with the lawn and when I’m finished I am sweaty. My wife, Christie, says that I smell like a little stinky kid that just came off the playground and pretty much demands that I take a shower right away.  The refreshing shower washes away all the dirt, grim and most of all the smell from the hard work.

            On the other hand, when you see me speak live, I am always dressed sharp. People say, “John, you are always dressed to the ultimate. You are always one of the sharpest looking speakers or presenters”. Absolutely!   I believe in dressing for success.  I completely disagree when people say, “Well, you don’t need to dress like that to be successful”. Everybody has a right to their own opinion, but I believe a major strategy for success is to dress the role.  Can you imagine if I just came in from cutting the yard in my old shorts, tank top and hat smelling all gross and went straight to a seminar to speak?  That’s just simply absurd, right?  Yet, many so-called sales experts enter the sales arena looking almost as bad.

            Clean up your act. Men, go out and invest in some sharp ties. Buy some shirts with cufflinks. At the recommendation of one of my billionaire friends, I now get my nails manicured.  Notice, I said BILLIONAIRE.  If it works for him, then it will work for me too!  Whether you believe it or not, people notice. The first impression is the most important impression.  I usually let my wife handle the women’s issues with dressing for success but let me talk to the ladies for just a second.  I will put this gently…You don’t have to bare all of your assets to make a sale.  I didn’t say it.  I’m just reiterating what my wife says, and I agree with her.  Whether you are a man or a woman, make sure that you dress appropriately when you are in the sales arena.  It will definitely have an effect on your sales presentation. 

            I disagree with a coach, who teaches success principles, and they look slothful. They don’t look cleaned up.  They’re half asleep when they are talking to you, their clothes are wrinkled, and they are not dressed as a champion.  It disgusts me when I see someone like that on stage trying to coach other people on success. Look at someone like Donald Trump. Donald Trump has a great wardrobe.  You may not like what he says, but you can’t dispute the fact that he is always dressed to the nines.  Don’t try to make the excuse that you can’t afford his clothes.  It’s not expensive to look professional. 

            When you walk into a presentation, the first thing people notice is how you look. They notice if your hair is a mess or if you are not clean-shaven as a man, or if you are wearing a suit that is too short or if you just threw on some jeans instead of dress slacks.  Being dressed professionally not only influences your potential business partner, but it also gives you more confidence.  When you clean up, you feel better. If you don’t believe that, then don’t take a shower for two weeks and see how you feel.  With that said, why would you walk into a business event where you can market your product or services and you do not look like a champion? You don’t look like who you know you want to be. 

            Make a decision today. Implement this strategy.  For realtors or anyone that uses their automobiles to transport clients, make sure that your car isn’t a pigpen.  If a potential buyer gets in your car and there’s garbage in the floorboards and it smells like three day old McDonald’s food, I doubt that they will want to book another appointment with you.  They simply can’t get past your trashy car long enough to think about buying a house.  I’m not saying that you have to drive a Mercedes, but your automobile does have to be clean so that your client is comfortable when they get in.  I believe in cleanliness. I believe in excellence. I believe you should act and believe who you are.

            Personal responsibility is the key. If someone is lazy and slothful, then they probably dress like a slob.  If you consider yourself a business professional, then simply dress the role.

When One Door Closes Another One Opens

Yes, I’m sure that you’ve all heard this at least a thousand times but I want to give you a new spin on this old saying.  Here it is…you must close someone in order to open up a long-term relationship with that person. Most likely, you are in some type of business.  You may be an author, a speaker, in network marketing, selling real estate or simply in general business.  No matter what type of business you are in or where you are in your life, you must be a closer.  If you meet someone that you know would be a great asset to your business, then take the time to explain to him why he should join your team, company, etc.  You must close him on the facts about who you are and where you are going in life in order to open up a long-term relationship with him. If you want something in life, then you have to go after it.  It’s not different in business.  To close someone, basically means to show that person beyond a shadow of a doubt that becoming part of your business, mastermind team, company, etc. will change their life.  It’s a decisive step that will lead to solid relationships.  When you leave an event or business meeting without making an effort to expand yourself and your business, then you have left doors open for other people, likely your competition, to walk through.  Show your strength and belief in who you are as a person by cementing that new business partner.  Yes, it is uncomfortable to be so confident but it will explode not only your business but your circle of influence.  When you surround yourself with people that become part of your life with a clear understanding of who you are and where you are going, there are no gray areas.  The majority of misconceptions are cleared up in the initial closing process.  You will have to build upon those relationships, but you set a standard for yourself and your business partners and/or team members from the very beginning. No matter whether you like him or hate him, Donald Trump is one of the greatest closers today.  He once said “If you have to lie, cheat or steal, you’re just not doing it right…My career is a model of tough, fair dealing and fantastic success without shortcuts and without breaking the law.”  I have no doubt that all of Donald Trump’s business partners know exactly where they stand in their relationship with him, because he closed them in the very beginning on who he was and what he expected. You don’t necessarily have to be as abrasive as Donald Trump, but you do have to have the same type of belief in who you are and what you will accomplish.  Whoever you meet must be able to detect your inner strength and not question your belief in yourself or your business.  The last challenge for you is to become a closer.  This will likely take some time because you will have to build your confidence to the point that when you are sitting in front of a potential business partner or mastermind team member there are no qualms about who you are and where you are going.  Are you strong enough to do this?  I truly believe that you are. I told you from the very beginning that these eight facts were going to be uncomfortable, challenging, undeniable, and uncompromising.  However, I also told you that these facts will enable you to live the life of who you truly are within yourself.  If you accept the eight challenges that I gave you and stop compromising on who you are as a person to fit some type of societal mold, then your life will change forever.  The champion inside of you will emerge and the world will know that you…the person that you really are…has arrived.

The Find Your 'Why' Challenge

As many of you have heard me say, you must know your WHY in life (your ultimate purpose) in order to deal with such issues as:


Why recruit?


Why deal with traffic in the morning?


Why come in early and work late?


Why deal with certain clients?


Why introduce your business to people on a daily basis?


Why work and plan over the weekend?

My personal mission statement is “You must be absolutely clear about your goal and be relentless in your pursuit of your “WHY” and reading your WHY card for the first seven minutes upon rising is the secret to cementing your WHY into your heart. In turn, this will direct your actions as you progress through your day. You will begin to see yourself handling some of your challenges a little differently, because you know WHY. You will not be afraid to deal with the challenges as you proceed towards your WHY. An example of a WHY card is: I will deal with all the challenges of today, because my WHY is to spend more time with my family, provide for my children’s education, have the finances needed to take regular family vacations and be a mentor to my kids. I will be able to donate/tithe a percentage of my earnings to my church or favorite non-profit organization. I am successful entrepreneur and build an ethical, profitable business for me and my family. I challenge you to re-evaluate where you are today and where you wish to be 5 years from now.  Then, decide to take action and write a personal WHY card that you will read daily. “...write the vision and make it plain on tablets that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time but at the end it will not lie.” You need to accept my challenge and write a WHY card! This step will totally empower your life. The ABC's of Life

This  article is targeted toward professional marketers in the industry of network marketing. During a workshop this week, I did a special presentation on the ABCs of achieving the top position in life and in business. The ABCs that I spoke of are as follows: A – Attitude/Action, B – Building/Belief, C – Commitment/Caring. The foundational key to success in life is a positive attitude. We all hear about it, we all talk about it and we all read about, but do we all have positive attitudes? Your attitude can go in three different directions – forward, neutral and backward. Going forward produces a positive attitude, remaining neutral and/or sliding backward result in a negative attitude. You cannot have both a positive and negative attitude! A person with a positive attitude will have “down days,” which are characteristics of a leader. In order to be successful, you must experience frustrations in life that tend to make you a stronger leader with a drive to succeed. Another important component to developing a positive attitude is establishing daily action steps. There are three key ingredients in building a professional business in network marketing or life in general. 1) Reading your WHY card upon arising in the morning and retiring in the evening. The most important force in your life is your WHY, which I speak extensively in my training programs and during seminars. (WHY are you living the life that you live day in and day out) You need to internalize your WHY and develop it into your spirit. 2) Consult with your Mastermind Team. Your Mastermind Team is the first three people that you consult with each and everyday that will ultimately help you achieve your WHY in life. 3) Speak to three new people a day about your business. Those three new people are three new prospects/three new seeds. “Seed time and harvest will not cease.” Those are two principles that will parallel your success in business and mainly in life. Basically what ever you plant you will harvest – positive or negative. A forward-moving attitude will help you to build a huge business for yourself and have an incredibly successful life. I challenge you this week to read your WHY card, consult your Mastermind Team daily and speak to three new people a day about your business.

John Di Lemme on 'A Few Words of Appreciation'

This week I am going to write about one of the most powerful yet simple “pebbles of action” towards building your mountain of success. This one action step will separate you from the
crowd and empower you to develop a network of people, who have a high regard of respect for you. The action is simply using a few words of appreciation. The words “thank you” are simple, but at the same time extremely powerful! I wrote in a past issue that the difference between ordinary and EXTRAordinary is just a little bit of EXTRA. Well, as I meet people and do business, I always make an extra-effort to say “thank you” by way of e-mail, voicemail or send a card in the mail. People always comment how much they appreciated the “thank you”. In these days of such hectic schedules and people running all over the place and trying to get ahead, sometimes we forget the simplest things in life are the most powerful and rewarding. You need to think to yourself about a time someone sent you a thank you and how much it meant to you. Always remember to “Do unto others as you would have done unto you!” After you finish a meeting make a note to yourself to send a timely thank-you. Simple actions reap big rewards! I personally like to leave a voicemail message or send an e-mail message with the subject line “Thank You”. Life is a journey and as you progress, the key is to establish a reputation as one who appreciates others. People will always feel comfortable to introduce you to one of their contacts knowing your past pattern has been one of professionalism and respect. You need to realize that your most notable achievements in life will usually be the result of someone introducing you to one of his or her contacts. From this day forward, always take a little pebble of action in order to build your mountain of success! “Thank you” is a fantastic place to start! I will start the ball rolling by thanking YOU, the readers of this manual. I truly appreciate your time and testimonials about how we have been able to help in your mission in Life.

John Di Lemme on 'Your Voiceprint'

“Mountains are built one pebble at a time and climbed one step at a time.” This is a quote of mine that I personally put into practice each day as I progress towards fulfilling my WHY in life. The word pebble in this quote means that each action you take needs to be productive toward building your mountain of success. As I was retrieving a message today from someone who called me, I had to play the message 5 times to finally understand the phone number he left for me to call him back. We have always heard the smallest things – the pebbles - in life are the most important. Well, this week’s tip from me is the importance of the quality of your phone messages, which I call your voiceprint. When you leave a voicemail message for someone, it is your “voiceprint.” It may sound a little crazy that my motivating tip for the week is “How to Leave a Message”, but I’ll bet that numerous people right now can relate to this. Everyone has had someone who called him or her and prior to calling them back they had a pre-determined feeling about the person before they even spoke to them live. The key is to have positive energy and confident words. Words are your #1 tool that God has given you to produce a super abundant life. Energy means to speak with conviction and confidence in your tone when you leave your message. You need to picture the person retrieving your message and ask yourself,”Will your message make them listen or just press fast forward?” The following tip alone will earn you a million dollars! When you leave your phone number, speak in 2 second increments leave the area code first, pause 2 seconds, then the next 3 numbers pause 2 seconds and finally the last 4 numbers. You need to practice this! I guarantee that you will see results right away when you put this tip into action. They will remember you as the person who actually spoke clearly and slowly enough that they were able to write down your message the first time they played it. As a person who receives numerous calls daily, I can tell you that I cannot understand the message or phone number in 8 out of 10 messages, nor can I determine WHO THE CALLER IS! Remember this “pebble of action” is one of the most important. Due to technology, your “voiceprint” is becoming the first introduction you have to many people. Also, do not assume that the person you are calling knows it is you. Always state your name and the best number for the receiver to return your call. You need to leave a clear, precise message, which reflects who you are...a person who knows their WHY in LIFE!

Just Believe and You Will Achieve

As I read the following stories of world-renowned people who have succeeded to the ultimate level in their respective fields, I said to myself, “All they had when they started their journey was belief in themselves because they overcame some major obstacles to succeed.” I am a true believer in reading success stories to find the inspiration and consistent motivation needed to achieve your personal WHY in life. As I have written in past issues, you need a mastermind group around you in order to truly flourish. When I first said that I was going to build an international business when I was only 26 years old and achieve enormous success, everyone thought that I had lost my mind but what kept me fueled up was reading stories of other achievers and how they struggled to reach their achievements. As many of you know, I went on to fulfill my dream and now I am building an international personal development business that will help many people achieve their dreams. The following are stories that I know will help you realize that all you need to do is BELIEVE in your ultimate outcome and you WILL achieve it! FAILURES...BUT NOT QUITE

You have the keys to succeed in your hands right now. Make a decision today to become a success story and not just a statistic! You need to be proud of your dreams and you need a mastermind team to verbally express your mission.

FIRED UP

The Power of a Scope

We all know the power of a scope if you need to focus in on a target and hit it. We all need to develop and truly understand the power of the human mind’s scope. All of us have inside of us the potential to be as powerful as the most high-tech laser scope available today. A scope is designed to focus in on a target without getting distracted or losing focus in order to hit its target right on the bull’s eye. Now remember that all mechanical scopes are programmed by human technology and if we can do it for machines, we can do it for ourselves. As you are progressing each day on your journey to your ultimate outcome in life, you need to stay 110% focused on your target. You need to focus in on your WHY in life and not be distracted by all the other negative noise we all hear each day in this negative world. You are 1000% more advanced in your focus just by reading this article today, because most people stop personal development as soon as their formal education stops. I always say formal education will get you a job, but self-education will enable you to design a life you want to live! Your personal scope in life can be finely tuned each day based on the people you associate with along with your personal commitment to personal development. As you develop your mind, you will be able to stay focused on your target and hit it right in the bull’s eye. I am a true believer in the daily focusing of your sniper, which is a minimum of 15 minutes of personal development per day. This can be done by listening to audiotapes or by reading written materials, which will empower you and improve your results. I personally invest two hours each day for my own personal development in life. The outcome of your internal scope in life is ultimately determined by how you fine-tune it each day. You need to ask yourself an honest question, “Am I doing all I can do to hit my target (your WHY) in life by enhancing each and every day the input to my human scope?” If the answer is “no”, then take action now and change your life forever!

JOHN DI LEMME ON “CAN” VERSUS “CAN’T”

It is my personal opinion that there are two words that are the driving force behind your personally achieving your ultimate outcome and your WHY in Life. These two words are the most powerful words that you can and will ever speak to yourself about any situation - “CAN” and “CAN’T” As I’ve said many times, “CAN” is a word of power; whereas, “CAN’T” is a word of retreat. You have the power to decide if you wish to ACHIEVE or RETREAT, because when you speak victory words such as “I CAN”, you will attain whatever you set out to do regardless of what others are saying to you. In another article, I made reference to famous entrepreneurs such as Ray Kroc, Fred Astaire, Walt Disney and Dick Clark. I can attest to the fact that if you spoke with each of them individually, they would tell you that in the beginning of their journey the majority of people told them ----you CAN’T do that! Fortunately, they disregarded these statements and listened to their inner voice, who said, “Oh yes I CAN!” The key in life is to realize the most important person who speaks to you every day is you on the inside! You need to review your WHY in Life and see if your are on track toward achieving your WHY, or are you on a detour because someone told you, “You CAN’T do that so stop dreaming and just forget about it!” As a personal mindset builder, you need to speak to your inner person and say to yourself, “Today I will take another productive stride!” Each morning, I visualize myself winning. My personal outcome for each day is to build a community of people who we can inspire and motivate all of us to make the world a better place in which to live. I have to admit if it was not for my inner person saying, “John you CAN do it! YOU CAN do it!” I may not be in the position of success that I am today. Some days it is still difficult, but guess what -- we ARE doing it! In summary, you need to ask yourself a very honest question, “Am I listening to my victory words from the inside or am letting the outer defeat (loser) words control my outcome in life?”

Listen – Who are you listening to? The person that you need to listen to is you. Inside you is your heart’s desire, and I want you to commit today to truly figure out your “Why”. Your Why is the reason that you get out of bed each day, the reason that you continue to build your business despite the obstacles and ultimately your Why is your Dream. Listen to your heart’s desire and it will tell you your Why in life! As I say, you must have FAITH (Find Answers In The Heart). It takes faith to become successful in life and fulfill your Why. Why are you throwing your hands up at your dreams? That’s right, if you are not learning something new everyday that will assist you in achieving your Why then you are ultimately giving up. I challenge you today to commit to learning and maximize your potential. Live – This is the last step that will help you achieve “unconventional” success. You see, con-ventional success means that by the age of sixty-five, 97% of people are dead or dead broke, 2% are barely making it and 1% are wealthy. To me, this is insane! Everyone has a Champion inside them and everyone was born a miracle, but it’s up to that person as an individual to forge forward in life and live as a successful person. This is “unconventional” success, when you make a decision to live like a Champion and achieve massive wealth in all areas of your life despite what the conventional statistics say. You must LIVE your Dream and your Why! I ask you, “Who are those three people that you were thinking of as you read this article?” If you thought of more than three, that’s fine because they all need to know the importance of Listening, Learning and Living.
